The Greatest Team of All? It must be The Club

Monday, November 05, 2007
The Alcoa Theatre Season 2007 is set to wind up for a big finish at GPAC with a new touring version of David Williamson’s The Club starring celebrated actor, John Wood.
The Club , the award winning play by arguably Australia’s most significant and prolific playwright, David Williamson, is about people in groups and the institutions they inhabit. It’s a story about egotism, commitment, power, jealousy and greed.

The story covers the transition of Australian sport into Australian business. The culture and rituals of an old football club are torn to shreds as the mighty dollar takes over. As one player remarks “all we got for joining was a Guernsey and a pat the back.  I’ve given the club ten years of my life and all I’ve got in the bank is eighty dollars.”

Presented by HIT Productions, The Club boasts the accomplished talents of Director, Bruce Myles (Hotel Sorrento, Love Child), Designer, Anna Borghesi (Wallflowering) and Lighting Designer, Glenn Hughes (Hotel Sorrento, Educating Rita).  Joining John on stage will be an exceptional cast including Christopher Connelly (Hotel Sorrento), Denis Moore (Malthouse’s The Spook), Christopher Parker (Oklahoma) and Simon Wilton (Playbox’s Still Angela).

HIT Productions brings The Club to GPAC for three shows in the Ford Theatre from November 12 to November 14. For bookings phone the Box Office on 5225 1200 or book online
