Australian Pops Orchestra returns to GPAC

Thursday, August 07, 2008
After an absence of three years, the Australian Pops Orchestra returns to GPAC this year with not one, but three inspiring shows.
First up in the Blakiston Theatre on July 12 will be As Time Goes By, a program of popular songs from the 1940s, 50s and 60s featuring the Auspops strings and rhythm section and leading vocalists Daina Jowsey, the lead female vocalist with the Victoria Police Showband, and Beven Addinsall, an accomplished singer who commenced his performing career at the age of 11 on Young Talent Time. Also featuring Lachlan Davidson on saxophone, As Time Goes By will take you on a trip down Memory Lane.

Next is At The Opera, a collection of beautiful soprano arias and sparkling piano opera transcriptions by Franz Liszt. This promises to be a very special evening with internationally acclaimed pianist Alan Kogosowski accompanying outstanding young soprano Emily Xiao Wang in celebration of the launch of their new CD recording, Kogosowski and Xiao Wang At the Opera. You can experience this exciting and unusual concert in the Blakiston Theatre on August 30.

And finally, on September 13 at Costa Hall, the Australian Pops Orchestra will present Absolutely British, a kaleidoscope of music from England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland with a good chunk of London’s historic and rousing Last Night of the Proms finale. Featuring the music of Eric Coates, Sir Edward Elgar, Andrew Lloyd Weber and Vaughan Williams, this is an event not to be missed!

Tickets are available separately for each show, with a special discounted subscription price for all three. Book now on 5225 1200 or here online.
