The Pitch gets a green light at GPAC

Monday, July 07, 2008
shaken+stirred @ THE BLAKI, GPAC’s winter series of four very different shows in the intimate surrounds of the Blakiston Theatre, continues with The Pitch, a hilarious satire depicting the trials and tribulations of trying to crack the big time in Hollywood.
Peter Houghton’s brilliant show was a critically acclaimed hit in Melbourne in 2006 and 2007 and was awarded two prestigious Green Room Awards for performance and for best new play.

The Pitch is set in the very humble apartment of aspiring screenwriter Walter Weinerman just before he is about to sell his screenplay to an all-powerful Hollywood film industry panel.

We watch as Walter desperately practices pitching his film concept. It’s his one shot at the big time and there’s a lot at stake. It’s a chance for immortality. It’s a chance to prove to the world that he’s got what it takes and maybe it’s a chance to win back the girlfriend who dumped him.

Walter’s script is an action, mystery, revenge, loser makes good, romance film set in way too many exotic locations. Its a classic tale of love, war, sniping, plane crashes, exotic accents and plenty of meaningful close ups.

Peter Houghton’s The Pitch is one hilarious antidote for the many clichéd and over done Hollywood blockbusters that we are all-too familiar with.

Peter Houghton is the winner of four Green Room Awards and has received no less than nine Green Room nominations.

Witness Walter making The Pitch in the Blakiston Theatre at 8pm nightly, 17-19 July.

shaken+stirred @ THE BLAKI will then come to a climax with The Burlesque Hour (31 July – 2 August), a tantalising blend of sideshow, striptease and cartoon strip.

Bookings are available GPAC on 5225 1200 or here online.
