Standing ovation for GPAC’s Nola

Monday, June 30, 2008
June 30 marks the end of an era when one of GPAC’s longest-serving staff members, usher Nola Wright, takes her final bow after 26 years of unfaltering service.
Since ushering her first show The Venetian Twins in 1982, Nola has seen innumerable new faces come through GPAC’s doors, from managers to floor staff, not to mention the casts, crews and audiences of the thousands of different shows and events for which she has ushered.

When quizzed on her favourite show out of the countless number she has seen over the years, Nola doesn’t hesitate. “Peter Allen was just a wonderful entertainer,” she says. “Seeing him perform at GPAC was a definite highlight.”

Although arthritis has slowed Nola down in recent years, she will still make regular visits to GPAC to catch up with old friends and attend the latest shows.

“Theatre is my life,” says Nola. “After 26 years, it’s in my blood.”

For further evidence of Nola’s theatrical bloodlines, look no further than her son, the internationally acclaimed baritone Peter Coleman-Wright, who has performed with some of the world’s great opera companies.

Nola Wright’s legacy to the performing arts is sure to be long remembered.
