Thursday, April 24, 2008
The 2008 Alcoa Theatre Season continues with two fabulous new productions, 'Heroes' and 'The 39 Steps'. To celebrate, GPAC are offering the ‘Heroes Pack’ – a special ticket package allowing you to see both of these wonderful shows and save $17.60!
This special offer is only available by calling the GPAC Box Office on 5225 1200 – be sure to ask for the Heroes Pack when inquiring.
With four performances in the Ford Theatre from 6th – 8th May, Heroes makes for an amusing and touching night of theatre, detailing a daring plan to seize the day and escape from lonely lives.
Max Gillies, Dennis Olsen and Robert Alexander star in this Olivier Award-winning comedy of camaraderie as Gustave, Henri and Philippe, three First World War veterans who spend their days on a quiet terrace of their military nursing home.
They pass their time grumbling about the staff, dreaming about young women and arguing over whether a statue of a dog is alive. Nothing changes much for these men, until the day Gustave hatches a daring plan to make a break for freedom – taking the dog with them.
Next up in the 2008 Alcoa Theatre Season is the Melbourne Theatre Company’s acclaimed production of John Buchan and Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps, in the Ford Theatre from 15th – 17th May.
To seriously recreate the sweep and thrill of Hitchcock’s 1935 film would require a large cast, lavish sets and costumes, and every piece of technical wizardry known to theatre. But who said we were serious? To comically recreate The 39 Steps requires just four actors, a few props and plenty of barefaced cheek.
Adapted by Patrick Barlow, whose play The Messiah was a huge success during the 2007 Alcoa Theatre Season, this wonderfully inventive and gripping comedy thriller features four fearless actors, playing 139 roles in 100 minutes of fast-paced fun and thrilling action. The 39 Steps stars screen and stage favourite Marcus Graham (E Street, The Rocky Horror Show, Channel 9’s controversial Underbelly).
