The Write Stuff - For The Right Reason

Thursday, January 10, 2008
THE WRITE STUFF playwriting competition gives aspiring playwrights the chance to have their new one-act plays workshopped, staged and possibly toured in 2009.

THE WRITE STUFF – FOR THE RIGHT REASON asks playwrights to submit a one-act play centred around the theme ‘the impact of gambling on individuals, families and the community at large.’ Winning entries will be workshopped and performed at the Woodbin Theatre and followed by a regional tour.

The launch will include an address by guest speaker, the respected playwright Michael Gurr. So far during his stellar career Gurr has written such plays as Sex Diary Of An Infidel, Julia 3, and Perfume And Crash Helmet as well as screenplays such as Departure and Emmett Stone. Gurr’s work has been performed by The Melbourne Theatre Company, The Sydney Theatre Company and Playbox. His work has been produced Australia-wide and on ABC and BBC radio and his memoir Days Like These, was short-listed for the 2007 NSW Premier’s Literary Awards.

THE WRITE STUFF – FOR THE RIGHT REASON will be launched on Sunday 20 January at the Woodbin Theatre from 2pm - 5pm, and will be followed by two community information sessions in February and April and the public reading on October 5th.

The competition is organized by the Geelong Repertory Theatre Company, and it opens on 20 January 2008 and closes on 30 June 2008.
