New comedy about family and faith opens at GPAC
A highly anticipated new work by one of Australia's most regarded young playwrights Tommy Murphy opens at Geelong Performing Arts Centre (GPAC) in September as part of Alcoa Theatre Season 2010. Gwen in Purgatory is a warm yet stinging portrait of contemporary family life, centred on 90-year-old Gwen.

Thousands of children pour through GPAC doors
Children from throughout the region have swarmed through Geelong Performing Arts Centre over the past two weeks, enjoying an array of local and touring performances. And the trend is set to continue into the school holidays with more top-class children’s events on the way.

A musical stroll down the Wallaby Track
Season Two of GPAC's popular Musical Mornings program continues on September 15 and 16 with On The Wallaby Track, a fun-filled show described as "a wander through colonial Australia in songs and yarns".

Poppykettle Children's Festival

The Poppykettle Children’s Festival is a vibrant festival dedicated to promoting and celebrating performing arts for children, young people and families.

This unique festival offers a comprehensive and innovative program with many opportunities to attend a diverse range of activities including concerts and workshops.

Dates: Kinder Day - 21 October
Primary School Day - 22 October
Cost: $4.50 per student

A teachers information session with GPAC and the Art Gallery will be held in the lead-up to this event. Come along to see what you can do back at school and how to get more involved in the festival.

The Wiz - The 2010 Geelong College Senior School Musical ‘The Wiz’ will have you ‘Easing on down the Road’ as we follow the magical tale of Dorothy, The Scarecrow, The Tinman and The Lion on their journey to meet the Wiz in the Emerald City. Combining over 100 students from years 9-12 this modern, upbeat interpretation of the timeless classic will have you dancing in the aisles.

On The Wallaby Track - On The Wallaby Track is a wander through colonial Australia in songs and yarns. Rollicking performances of favourite Australian/Irish tunes, a Henry Lawson story, Mark Twain at the Melbourne Cup, some racing tips from C.J. Dennis ("hey, could you lend us half a quid?"), jokes, the sad story of Holy Dan and meaningful lines from the pens of those highly respected local writers Trad and Anon.

Australian National Academy of Music - Woodwind Showcase - The Woodwind Showcase features works prepared by musicians attending ANAM, including a work by the ANAM Composer in Residence. Details of the program are yet to be determined, but will feature several ensembles including woodwinds and other instruments.
