GPAC’s Alcoa Theatre Season 2010 opens in March with the return of the irreverent and irrepressible Max Gillies in the political satire Godzone , a fiercely funny dissection of Australian politics written by Gillies and Guy Rundle.

Back To Back Theatre brings small metal objects to Westfield
A hit right across the world, Back to Back Theatre will perform its award winning production small metal objects in Geelong for the first time this April. The Geelong based company has created an intriguing production performed by four actors, two with learning disabilities. Their work defies convention, challenges reason and questions the imperative to be 'normal'.

Education Program

The Bendigo Community Banks' Education Program provides a diverse range of experiences to students at schools across the region, with events including the Poppykettle Children's Festival and the Geelong Schools Music and Movement Festival. Students also attend theatre shows, workshops and participate in hands-on learning opportunities.

Building Ensemble Performance
Get your ensemble into gear with this very practical workshop. Invaluable for students studying Unit 3 VCE Drama but suitable for students in years 10 and 11 as well, the workshop uses a range of stimulus material to generate ideas for making theatre. The workshop will also incorporate non-naturalistic theatre conventions, adopting them as building blocks for devising group performance. more >>
The Grimstones - Mortimer Revealed
Martha Grimstone, the girl who reads dreams, longs for the truth. How did her father Mortimer die? And did he really love her? Will her mother Velvetta finally share the family secrets? Mortimer Grimstone rises from the grave to reveal what really happened on the fateful night he died. more >>
Shakespeare's R&J
Shakespeare’s R&J is an innovative, sexy new interpretation of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy. In the repressive atmosphere of a Catholic boys’ boarding school, four young students decide to stage Romeo and Juliet for their own enjoyment. more >>
Performing Solo: structuring a solo performance
A two-hour intensive that focuses on ways to make solo performance from prescribed stimuli. Participants will explore the conventions and elements of non-naturalism, use a range of stimuli to create mini-solos, perform, analyse and work specifically on an aspect of their chosen prescribed structure. This an excellent opportunity for students (and teachers) to turn ideas and research into practical, creative theatre. more >>
A Man For All Seasons
Robert Bolt’s compelling masterpiece is set against the backdrop of social, political and religious upheaval during the reign of King Henry VIII of England. The play follows the life and death of Sir Thomas More in a wonderfully crafted examination of personal conscience versus political expediency. more >>
Geelong Schools Music and Movement Festival
This week-long festival is a great chance for students to perform in a professional theatre environment on the Ford Playhouse stage and be an audience to a wide range of performance items including Rock Bands, Dance Groups, Singers & Choirs, Solo performances and orchestras. more >>

Wombat Stew
The simple story of a dingo who catches a wombat and decides to make wombat stew, has been cleverly developed into a “true-blue-dinky-di-big-aussie-musical” complete with blobs of mud, very fine feathers, creepy crawlies, fliesss, gum-nuts and a big bubbling billy can! more >>

Godzone - There's fervour in the revivalist tent, where Reverend Kevin of Rudd Ministries, in a sermon from the German (translated via Mandarin), tells his congregation that religion is the new politics and vice versa. Called up to testify, his guests, drawn from the Great and the Good, will each bear witness to the powerful spirit moving across this land.

ALCOA THEATRE SEASON 2010

Alcoa Theatre Season 2010 heralds another year of great entertainment packed with toe-tapping music, hilarious comedy and sizzling performances.

The spotlight will shine on an endless parade of top-shelf performers including veteran actors/comics Max Gillies and Garry McDonald, chanteuses Christine Anu and Casey Donovan, and even Australia's greatest magician James Galea - in a stylish, astonishing and celebratory collection of shows.
