Footlight Productions presents

West Side Story

by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim

*Tickets on sale 9.00am, Monday 30 November*

Footlight Productions
, the team that presented 'Cats' and 'The Boy From Oz', are back in February with the Broadway classic 'West Side Story'.

Set in New York City in the 1950s, West Side Story is the award winning adaptation of the Shakespearian romantic tragedy Romeo and Juliet. Although more than fifty years have passed since its debut, West Side Story has lost none of its relevance. It speaks of the need for tolerance and understanding, and reflects a part of our humanity as we strive to live in harmony with all people regardless of race, colour or creed. Central to the core of West Side Story is the lost innocence of young people who are simply trying to create a space of their own.

The stirring music of Leonard Bernstein encapsulates the tension and drama as each scene unfolds with such hauntingly beautiful songs as Maria, Tonight, One Hand One Heart and Somewhere interspersed with the dynamic hit America and the comical tune Officer Krupke.

West Side Story has been empowering audiences all over the world for many years and our cast of 37 performers is eager to bring it back to the Geelong stage. This timeless classic is on for a limited season in February March 2010.

There is a time for each one of us.
There is a place for each one of us.
Somewhere.
