Straight To You: triple J's tribute to NICK CAVE

This November, triple j's Ausmusic Month will once again pay tribute to one of this country's musical greats.

Two years ago, the centrepiece of triple j's annual Australian music celebrations was Before Too Long - a tribute to Paul Kelly held over two nights at Forum Theatre in Melbourne. The offshoot live CD/DVD won an ARIA for Best Original Soundtrack/Cast/Show Album. Previous years have seen other triple j tribute concerts honouring the likes of The Go-Betweens and AC/DC.

This year triple j pays tribute to the one and only Nick Cave. With a career spanning 35 years, Cave is one of the true greats of music. Starting with Boys Next Door and then The Birthday Party, Cave has made 14 solo albums with The Bad Seeds and two more with his recent Grinderman project. He has been both incredibly prolific and consistently brilliant. He's also been the most continually played artist on triple j across those three decades. His constant appearances in Hottest 100's also speaks volumes of his relevancy to new generations of music fans.

With no shortage of artists keen to volunteer their time, the line-up of vocalists who will help us celebrate the work of Nick Cave is a diverse and passionate array of talent. In alphabetical order they are: Abbe May, Adalita, Alex Burnett (Sparkadia), Ben Corbett (Gentle Ben And His Sensitive Side/SixFtHick), Bertie Blackman, Dan Sultan, Jake Stone (Bluejuice), Johnny Mackay (Children Collide), Kram (Spiderbait), Lanie Lane, Lisa Mitchell, Muscles, Tim Rogers (You Am I) and Urthboy (The Herd).

Joining these singers will be a band lead by Cameron Bruce - a Sydney writer and musician who plays in both Paul Kelly and Washington's bands. No stranger to big productions, Bruce was also the Musical Director for Cannot Buy My Soul, the acclaimed 2008/9 concerts celebrating the music of Kev Carmody.

Each year, triple j listeners have begged us to tour these tribute shows; so this year we're answering those calls. Starting in Geelong, the Straight To You tour will take in Ballarat, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Newcastle and Brisbane.

Straight To You: triple j's Tribute to Nick Cave promises to be a unique series of concerts you won't want to miss.

WHAT'S ON

Boy & Bear - It doesn't seem that long ago that the nation was falling in love with one of Boy & Bear's pivotal first singles, 'Mexican Mavis'. Creeping slowly through the national airwaves, discovered by music lovers and settling itself in minds across the country, 'Mexican Mavis' was an accidental statement of intent.
