Off-beat story of dance and romance in Syncopation
A smash-hit fusion of comedy, drama, romance and ballroom dancing, Syncopation is the next sensational production in GPAC's 2012 Alcoa Theatre Season in partnership with Deakin University.This heart-warming production is choreographed by Dancing with the Stars' Mark Hodge, under the direction of Broadway's Tony Award-nominated Stephen Lloyd Helper.

Children’s classic comes to life on stage for a new generation

Short Stories From Around The World

Short Attention returns to GPAC for one night only. This film festival features eight short films from around the world - stories that will intrigue, surprise, and entertain you. Short Attention offers film buffs an intimate evening of extraordinary shorts.

PROGRAM:
Part 1


Inja (17 min)
South Africa, 1980s. Using a young Xhosa boy as a pawn, a farmer teaches his puppy to be white man’s best friend. Ten years later, both their lives hang in the balance at the mercy of the dog.

Between the Flags (7 min)
How many rioters does it take to start a riot? When two guys from opposing sides of conflict are the first arrivals for a beach riot, they are initially unsure of the accepted etiquette.

Bombshell
(15 min)
A bombshell is thrown in the lap of two ultra conservative Greek Australian brothers which makes them question their very identities as men.

The Sound of Cry (8 min)
When Andrew, a young Australian man, attends a Tangi (Maori funeral) both he and the family of his deceased best friend must face the repercussions of tragedy and come to terms with their spirituality.

Part 2

I Can Speak Swedish (18 min)
Jane buys a used car in which she finds items that provide her with the chance to communicate with a world she once feared. Hope is the same in any language.

Close Distance (8 min)
Isaac goes to collect his son from soccer one night only to find he's been violently beaten. He spots one of the perpetrators - a young Muslim man. 
Consumed with a desire for vengeance, his search leads him beyond his own sheltered world and into the streets of Islamic Sydney.  

Old War (10 min)
A handsome stranger strikes up a conversation with a young woman at a party. The next day there is intimacy between them…it seems their chance meeting might lead somewhere. But as they learn more about each other they must face potentially explosive issues of heritage.

Bad Habits (9 min)
Bill has to make a compromise when forced to choose between his wife and his best mate. His best mate is his dog, Seven.

Syncopation - Henry Ribolow is a Jewish meatpacker obsessed with becoming a ballroom dancer and is desperately seeking a dance partner. Anna Bianchi, an Italian Catholic seamstress, is unsatisfied with her life until she spots a curious ad in the paper: “Give your life a lift. Wanted: A dance partner to dance for royalty.”
