Music At The Basilica presents

'Seasons' Strings concert - STABAT MATER

by Pergolesi

Giovanni Pergolesi’s ‘Stabat Mater’ will be performed on 31st October. This is a lovely work, with delicate and varied passages of exquisite beauty, written by Pergolesi near the end of his short life (1710 – 1736).

The 'Seasons' Strings, which has been formed for this performance, includes 10 of Geelong’s foremost strings players, with leader Wendy Galloway. Frank De Rosso will conduct the 'Seasons' Strings, with soprano Lisa Breen and alto Alison Ralph singing in gorgeous solo and duet settings. Albinoni’s hauntingly beautiful Adagio will include Brendon Lukin at the chamber organ. Outstanding young local classical guitarist Maximillian Rudd will perform Vivaldi’s Guitar Concerto. As a highlight in this program, Malcolm John will conduct the ensemble in one of his own compositions.

The ‘Stabat Mater’ concert will be accompanied by an exhibition of sacred icons by local artist Marijke Inei. Marijke’s work is in demand for exhibitions and we are pleased to offer this opportunity for you to view these icons.
