Geelong Chamber Music Society presents
Raga Dolls Salon Orchestra - 'Greatest Hits'
Director: David Osborne
Formed in 2000 as a quartet, five years ago the Raga Dolls grew into the salon orchestra of today. The Raga Dolls Salon Orchestra is a unique group of 14 musicians modeled on the small scale working orchestras that plied their trade in the early part of the 20th century. They perform a repertoire very much evocative of that era, although, in fact, most is the original work of the Musical Director, David Osborne.
The music of the Raga Dolls Salon Orchestra is frequently heard on ABC Classic Radio, and it has appeared in a
Sunday Live performance, and on 774 ABC Melbourne, in the Spiegeltent and at the ABC 75th Birthday Celebrations in Federation Square. The orchestra will celebrate its tenth anniversary in July at the Melbourne Recital Centre.
The program consists of waltzes, tangos, klezmer pieces and other music with a definitely European flavour. Many of these pieces have been recorded on the orchestra's CDs.
