Lyric Theatre Society presents

Pirates of Penzance

The Geelong Lyric Theatre Society is delighted to announce the final cast for its' October 2011 production of The Pirates of Penzance to be directed by Stacey Carmichael.

The Geelong Lyric Theatre Society (GLTS) is one of Victoria's leading non-professional musical theatre companies who have been putting on musical theatre productions in the local community on a continuous basis for almost 40 years.

The Pirates of Penzance is a comic opera in two acts, with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W. S. Gilbert. The opera's official premiere was at the Fifth Avenue Theatre in New York City on 31 December 1879. The Pirates of Penzance was the only Gilbert and Sullivan opera to have its official premiere in the United States.

The company is delighted to have put together a highly talented cast with a diverse range of experience that includes Music Theatre Guild of Victoria winners Jamie McGuane and Davina Smith Crowley alongside Lyric newcomers Will Reed and Shani Clarke.

Two of the principal cast Alard Pett and Sally Anne Jones were both members of the inaugural Lyric Youth Theatre production of Pirates of Penzance back in 2002 and have now graduated to lead roles in the latest GLTS revival of this most of Gilbert and Sullivan's work.

The principal cast will be ably supported by an ensemble of 25 Daughters, Pirates and Police to bring this Broadway version to life on the Playhouse Theatre stage.
