Melbourne Symphony Orchestra presents

  • MOZART Mass in C minor, K.427 (The Great)
Featuring

Miriam Allan soprano
Paul McMahon tenor
Christian Immler bass
Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Chorus
Jonathan Grieves-Smith chorus master

In this concert we meet the mature Mozart at the height of his powers. Hearing its exquisite slow music, it's hard to credit that he created the Linz symphony in just four days; Mozart's ability to marry expediency and brilliance may never have borne more astounding results. Incomplete though it may be (like his Requiem), the C minor mass remains one of the pinnacles of sacred music in the classical era. Tender, epic, profound and beautiful, it is a magnificent achievement even by Mozart's lofty standards. To conduct it the MSO and Chorus welcome one of the world's leading early music scholars, Masaaki Suzuki, founder of Bach Collegium Japan, and an outstanding cast of soloists.

Event Duration:  2hrs
