Geelong Advertiser Music Competiton Final
Geelong audiences will have the opportunity to see some of the region's - and the nation's - finest musicians in action, as four regional finalists and three national finalists compete for more than $20,000 in prize money in the Geelong Advertiser Music Competition Finals Concert at Deakin's Costa Hall on Thursday August 25.
The Regional Competition showcases Geelong's up and coming young talent and rewards excellence in a local solo instrumental musician aged up to and including 18 years. It also aims to encourage young people to aspire to excellence in music and to further the musical education of recipients. The winner of the Harwood Andrews Lawyers Regional Prize will recieve $3,000, with the three remaining finalists each receiving a $1,000 runner-up prize.
This year's regional finalists are: Clare Duck (clarinet), Adrian King (trombone), Lilian Liu (piano) and Georgia Williams (flute).
For the national competition, the winner of the prestigious Baxter Prize (funded by the Percy Baxter Charitable Trust) will walk away with $10,000 in prize money, with three runners-up each receiving $2,500. The national finalists are: Catherine Gregory (QLD, flute); Anne-Marie Johnson (NSW, violin); Tony Lee (NSW, piano); and Jessica Voigt (VIC, saxophone).
Don't miss what is sure to be a night of exceptional music, and give our young talent encouragement as they aspire to excellence.
